Hey Guys,

I just wanted to see what everyone's schedule looks like for the Spring Quarter. I know that neither Chris nor I are available Tuesdays or Thursdays, and Monday is our best night during the week.

Knitting for the Needy (Open Door Mission) [02 Dec 2005|03:31pm]

blue_danube
Hi all, sorry to post about this again but I have more concrete details this time! :)

If you would like to donate knitted items to the Open Door Mission, please come to this event!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
“Knitting for the Needy”

December 17, 2005 from 10 am to 4 pm
At Faith Temple Church (1876 Elmwood Road)
In the Faith Center/Modular Building (Large gray building in back parking lot)

Bring your needles, hooks, and yarn you would like to knit up (or crochet)! We are making hats, scarves, and/or mittens to donate to the Open Door Mission - they need both adult and kid sizes. If you have previously made items that you would like to donate, please bring them and drop them off! We will have tags that you can sign and attach to your pieces to make these more personal gifts. Feel free to invite anyone else that you know who knits, and accompany them for however long you can stay. If you do not have yarn to bring, but still would like to join us, we have asked some local businesses to contribute some supplies to the effort. Call Ashley Waltz at (585) 451-4893 if you have any questions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

So far I have gotten Knit & Purl, Wild Wools, and (hopefully) Spirit Work Knit to donate yarn for this. I will have all the donations by next Tuesday night, so if you are interested in getting yarn let me know so I can bring it to the meeting (provided that we are meeting next week). (Note: I'm not sure how much/what kinds of yarn I am getting yet, so there might not be that much to choose from.)

Additionally, if you have items you want to donate using your own yarn, please do! Any and all donations are welcome. I'm trying to get as many people to knit things as I can.

Thanks, and I hope to see you there!
Ashley

ooookay. [29 Nov 2005|12:48pm]

So.

I've been thinking.

There's really no night where any of us can all meet...and well that makes me sad, it's always sad when everone can't come.

Just a crazy thought. But is anyone interested in doing knitting on a Friday?
And start at like 6 at Panera, so that if people have plans they can leave earlier, etc.

If there isn't enough people that like the idea of Friday....

Here's another crazy idea.
Do a rotation. One week due it on Tuesday, the following week on Thursday. And like post a list of the days we will be meeting at Panera.
If we did the rotation, I'd obviously suggest starting with Thursday for this week, since well it's already Tuesday.

What does everyone vote for?

winter quarter knitting! [27 Nov 2005|06:55pm]

laauuren
hey everyone! hope you all had a great break :)

Figured I would start by posting my winter schedule (meant to do it earlier) and then we can all post schedules and figure out if the stars will align for a good day to do knitting. For me looks like Monday and Thursday are open! I hope it all works out for us, here's my schedule though:

Request for knitted items! :) [21 Nov 2005|01:31pm]

Hey all,
I was wanting to do something charitable with the new skills you all have helped to teach me (p.s. thanks I really enjoy knitting now! I am being sucked in more day by day! haha), so I called the Open Door Mission and they said they would definitely accept handknitted (or crocheted) items such as hats, scarves, and gloves. They could use both adult and kids items (they have a women and kids distribution center that supports more than 2,000 families year-round), both male and female items. (The collection center is at 156 North Plymouth Avenue, and there are staff there 24 hours a day to accept donations if you want to drop stuff off yourself!)

I was thinking if we all could get together some stuff to donate for Christmas time that would be cool! We could use some of our meeting times before break specifically to knit for this purpose. I am working on possibly getting some yarn donated, because I'm also working on getting some ladies at my church who knit together to do the same thing, so if I am able to do that then I can bring yarn too! (If not, a few skeins of yarn from each of us would be just as cool! :)

Also, I am planning to design tags (like small card-style clothing tags) that we could attach to the items with ribbon to let people know who did this (i.e. "From the RIT knitters - We hope this keeps you warm this winter season! Please enjoy this gift from us and know that we were thinking about you when we made it" kinda thing), to make it more personal.

Anyway, any comments, thoughts, agreements or disagreements? Ideas on places that might donate yarn to such a cause?

Thanks,
Ashley

Thank god they are almost over...just one more paper to write.

Anyhow, we don't have the room this wednesday.

Anyone still interested in meeting up and knitting at Panera?

Also there's the thursday meeting. I'll be going thursday, but I wouldn't mind two nights of knitting in a row!

I'll show up Wensday at Panera is anyone else is interested.

Oh, and I started another hat! :) I'm hoping it will actually fit now haha.
